Individual Therapy

Perhaps you’re down or anxious – maybe you’re unsure about the future of a relationship, or just feel that you aren’t living the life you were meant to lead. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support. Therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery, and in my sessions, I promote change by encouraging a positive outlook and the adoption of new attitudes and reactions. I have the tools and professional experience to help you get back on track.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy involves joint sessions with the therapist and the couple. The length of a session is usually 60 minutes. Couples therapy aims to address the unique stressors and conflicts that are being experienced by the couple. It assists in improving communication, exploring patterns that may be problematic, and enhancing the strengths within the couple system. It is also useful in helping the couple deal with important changes in the life cycle such as birth of a new baby, children going to school, dealing with teenagers etc.

Family Therapy

Family therapy involves sessions with the therapist and various family members (depending on each family’s unique composition). Family therapy helps the family deal with issues experienced by the family such as conflicts, illness within the family, and identifying patterns of interaction among family members that perpetuate problems.

Medico-Legal Assessments

Legal requests or 3rd party. The assessments are conducted following the request of a legal representative or third party

I am a Clinical Psychologist based in Johannesburg. I graduated with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology as well as Honours degree in Psychological Counselling from the University of South Africa. In addition to these, I have a BA degree in Communication from the University of South Africa and a University diploma in Education from the University of Bophuthatswana (currently North-West University). I have experience working with people of all ages as a clinical psychologist, educator, and school principal. My experience as a clinical psychologist includes having worked at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in Krugersdorp and at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. I am a registered member of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

My Approach & Values

There are many approaches to psychotherapy and I have had experience applying various theories such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy. I use a theory of psychotherapy as a roadmap to guide me through the process of understanding clients and their problems so as to develop goals for therapy. My main approach is Family Systems Theory which views an individual or group as its own ecosystem with many moving parts that affect each other. A system is characterized by a group of parts that interact to form a coherent whole. Changes in one component of a system will affect other components as well as the overall entity. In family systems therapy, familial relationships, patterns, communication, and behaviours are examined within and beyond the therapy session, allowing the therapist and other family members to observe how certain behaviours could be impacting the family. Systems theory is not only applied to individuals, couples, and families, but also to organizations, communities, or businesses to help groups gain insight into how each member’s role within a group may affect its functionality.
